Students Get Better Auto Insurance Rates with Better Grades

When you are young, it is not easy to find cheap auto insurance. Insurance companies look at you as a larger risk and charge you more for the privilege of covering you with auto insurance.

Even though your rates will certainly not be the best while you are young, especially for males under the age of 25, there are things you can do to help ensure better rates in the future. One thing that will help you to get better general auto insurance rates in the future, is to get good grades while still in school.

In an article by Liz Pulliam Weston, at MoneyCentral.MSN.com, she says that Joe Annoti, who is spokesman for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, said "It's kind of an open secret in the insurance industry that straight-A students aren't really that much safer than C students. But many insurers still give a 10% to 25% discount to teenagers who maintain a B average or better because these kids are seen as better future risks. Long-term, they want the A student as a customer." Better students are seen as "more responsible."

This is a situation where the benefits may not be seen right away, but they will sure be visible in the future. Kids who also stay away from alcohol on their record get a much better deal on their discount car insurance, too.
