Are All Auto Insurers Equal?

Many people who have been driving for a while have heard the nightmare stories about car insurance companies that just don't pay on claims. After all, if there is a rightful claim and you can't get your money to pay for medical or automotive expenses – what good is it to have car insurance with that company? Sounds like its time to get another one – one with a better reputation, and one that actually does what it is supposed to do – when it is supposed to do it.
There are several ways to check on the worthwhileness of an auto insurer. You can find several places online that rate auto insurance companies. One of these places is your state's Department of Insurance. Erin Riches at Edmunds.com, recommends that you visit the local auto body shops near you and ask them which insurers pay out the best – they know.
Talking to an agent directly, is another way to learn more about a company, says Erin. Never, though, take the word of an agent alone. Get other facts, as well, and it will help you make a good decision about an auto insurance company.
One more thing that you can do is to do a general search online for the auto insurer's name. This will let you see what kind of complaints there are online. Remember that probably every company will have some complaint, but look for an overall track record and the seriousness of those complaints before making a decision.
